Clearing South African Customs

South African customs requirements are as follows. The requirements are strictly enforced, but if you are in possession of the right paperwork and follow the right procedure it will take 20 minutes. You will need:

1) Export form 4457. This is a temporary export permit for your firearms that you obtain from the U.S. Customs office.  This form verifies that you had possession of the firearms prior to departing the Untied States. You will need this form to bring the firearms back into the United States.

2) SAPS 520.  This is a temporary import permit into South Africa and is included in the package supplied by Gracy Travel. Complete the form in black ink and if you have any problems concerning its completion contact Shawn at Gracy Travel at 800.299.8558. This form is submitted at customs in South Africa. Important: Only sign the form in front of the customs officer in Johannesburg.

3) Letter of invitation. This is a letter of invitation from Tshipise Safaris stating the duration and dates of the safari as well as our outfitting details and the registration number of your guide. Also included is the caliber of the rifle that you are bringing on safari. This document is needed at customs in Johannesburg.
